KATHMANDU – Nepal’s national women's
football team secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Sri Lanka in their Group
2 encounter of the SAFF Women's Championship 2026. This crucial win officially
propels Nepal to the top of the group table.
Following a 4-4-2 setup in their previous match against Bhutan,
coach Neupane opted for a tactical shake-up for yesterday's clash. Deploying a dynamic
4-3-3 formation with a revamped starting lineup, the strategic change paid off handsomely
as Nepal completely dominated the pitch, maintaining a massive 70% ball possession and
firing 23 total shots against Sri Lanka's 0.
The breakthrough came deep into first-half stoppage
time when Rashmi Kumari Ghising found the back of the net in the 45+3' minute to break the deadlock.
For her brilliant offensive work rate and game-changing opener, Ghising was rightfully awarded the Player
of the Match.
Nepal doubled their lead in the second half when Renuka Nagarkoti clinical
finish in the 62' minute sealed the 2-0 win. With flawless defensive stability and creative midfield control, Nepal effectively
